Can an iMac10.10.5 open Audacity software?

I intend to use Audacity software to edit music input into my iMac(operating system 10.10.5). I've read this on the audacity.org website: "Security settings on OS X 10.7 or later may block Audacity being launched. Most users on OS X 10.9.5 and later will experience this, due to changes made by Apple." Is it possible to use the software in spite of the security problem, and, if so, how do I do this? Any information would be welcome!

Works for me. If you try and get a message saying you cannot open it because of a security or signing problem, then try this: CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the app's icon then select Open from the very top of the context menu. Click on the Open button in the next dialog.

What version of audacity were you using? I intend to use audacity 2.1.2.....do i need to have an older version?

2.1.2 works fine in Yosemite.
